Rotary Bengaluru Peenya was chartered in the year 1983 with a group of 24 dedicated Rotarians as charter members with an objective of implementing service projects. Towards the above goal in the last 40 years we have the following significant projects.
Jaipur Foot Camp is being conducted every year since its inception 25 years ago where the differently abled people looking for their limb of life are provided with artificial limbs, calipers and crutches. There are victims of polio or amputees due to accidents and gangrene, snake bites, electrocution. The heart breaking scene where people come crawling on their hands and legs, children being carried by their parents, patients coming on wheel chairs with hope in their eyes and anxiety on their faces expecting their life to turn into a new chapter believing that a miracle will happen. They go back walking with their prosthesis or with the satisfaction that somebody has assured them a better life with the corrective surgeries to enable them to lead a normal life. So far 11,339 Limbs, 20,688 Calipers, 11,064 Crutches, and 2287 LN-4 prosthetic hands and to those unable to get fitments 411 tricycles, 846 wheelchairs have been provided so far. For beneficiaries with more major orthopaedic cancers 875 polio corrective surgeries and 70 Hip replacements have been carried out taking the grand total to 47,580 beneficiaries of this camp.
In the latest Limb Camp held in 3rd Jan to 9th Jan 2023, 694 Limbs, 656 Calipers, 529 Crutches, 77 LN-4, 10 Wheel Chairs, have been provided with a total of 1,966 beneficiaries.
Rotary Bengaluru Peenya’s fight against polio has taken a new dimension by partnering with M S Ramaiah medical Hospital to perform polio corrective surgery for those afflicted by the disease. 875 polio corrective surgeries for those afflicted by the disease enabling them to walk again.
The Annual Vaccination Camp is a joint project with Rotary Pavagada. Pavagada in Tumkur Dist has a soil that is not very fertile besides the farmers themselves lead a hand-to-mouth existence making it virtually impossible for them to afford the cost of vaccinating their cattle & live stock. Since 1998 every year about 3000 animals have been vaccinated.
Rotary Bengaluru Peenya Trust run Pandit Deendaya Upadhyaya Dialysis Centre has completed 10 years of yeomen service to humanity. This being the only ISO 9000 certified centre has completed 53,060 dialysis procedures so far. The facility is free for BPL card holders while for the rest, a nominal amount of Rs.500/- is charged. Under PROJECT RUCHI BOGH – we provide free food to all the patients everyday both in the morning and afternoon. Every month about 600 to 650 packets of sumptuous food is given.
Most of the Dialysis patients require blood once in 4-6 months since their Haemoglobin comes down. They need 2 units of blood and also Hospital admission. The total cost comes to about Rs.7,000. To ease the burden in the patients, we get them FREE blood from TTK- Rotary Blood Bank and do the transfusion ourselves absolutely free. It is another mini Community Service project that runs parallelly in our centre.
Dialysis Technician are scarce. We train the students who are doing 3 year Dialysis Technician course. We take a batch of 6 students and train them thoroughly for 6 month, after which we conduct an exam. Those who pass will be immediately absorbed in many corporate hospitals. This is a Vocational Service project.
